About Karl Springer
Born in Berlin in 1931, Springer came to New York City in the late 1950's and found work arranging window displays at Lord & Taylor. He used former trade as a bookbinder in Germany to craft desk accessories wrapped in leather on the side. These items attracted sophisticated clientele and established his own atelier five years later. His work is by nature is flamboyant, eye-catching, generally simple yet substantial, and often feature round lines.
