Ancient Modernism Vase, Large
A monumental, one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel from the artist’s Ancient Modernism series. Hand-built using a traditional coil technique, the piece is layered with wild clay slips sourced from Japan and California, along with a rich combination of oxides and stains.
Multiple firings create a deeply textured, timeworn surface adorned with abstract symbols and sculptural details. Inspired by the markings of an ancient language, the vessel has the mysterious presence of an artifact unearthed from another era.
At 21 inches tall and weighing approximately 50 pounds, this is the largest work created for the series. Only a small handful of these vessels were made, making it an exceptionally rare and commanding piece.
