'Before the Horses Hugged' by Heather Farrell
An original painting that explores abstraction, two horses coming together in an embrace. There is a beauty in something not fully realized, left open for interpretation, and appreciated for the stillness it asks of the viewer. It is similar to the silent gaps and spaces in a song which hold equal weight to the notes themselves.
About Heather Farrell
Heather is a painter based in Los Angeles, working primarily in acrylics, though her first love is oils—the scent of linseed oil and turpentine still evokes her formative years at the Art Institute of Boston, where she earned a studio diploma. Her latest body of work explores themes of longing, fading memory, fractured relationships, and the desire for control, often drawing on childhood experiences and abstracted digital imagery. Through painting and mixed media assemblage, she embraces imperfection and uncertainty, allowing spontaneity and reflection to guide her process. Letting go of rigid planning has become central to her practice, making space for emotional resonance and quiet transformation on the canvas
