'Grasping' by Heather Farrell
This piece draws on memories of childhood holidays with extended family in seaside Winthrop, Massachusetts, moments that feel both cherished and slightly out of reach. The shell motif speaks to those experiences, symbolizing protection, personal growth, and the passage of time.
About Heather Farrell
Heather is a painter based in Los Angeles, working primarily in acrylics, though her first love is oils—the scent of linseed oil and turpentine still evokes her formative years at the Art Institute of Boston, where she earned a studio diploma. Her latest body of work explores themes of longing, fading memory, fractured relationships, and the desire for control, often drawing on childhood experiences and abstracted digital imagery. Through painting and mixed media assemblage, she embraces imperfection and uncertainty, allowing spontaneity and reflection to guide her process. Letting go of rigid planning has become central to her practice, making space for emotional resonance and quiet transformation on the canvas
